不必，先生们；我歇一歇，就讲下去。这时，诸位先生，就在五十码的距离里，船上突然看到了那条雪白的大鲸——水手们都忘记彼此间的不和睦了——那个腾涅立夫人一时兴奋得本能地、不然而然地扯起嗓门喊出那大海兽了，虽然刚才不久，那三个站在桅顶上的不高兴的水手已经清楚地看到了。现在是大家都乱了起来。白鲸呀——白鲸！从船长。大副到标枪手都这样叫嚷着，他们，不顾各种可怖的传说，都急于要捉住这样一条有名而希罕的大鲸；那些跟在后边的水手，则斜楞起眼睛望着那个骇人美景，嘴里骂个不停。那一大团乳白体，被水平线上那个闪耀的太阳一照，直象是一片亮晶晶的乳色玻璃，在早晨的湛蓝的海里闪闪发光。
