A: So Yuri, you're Italian. What do you think about all the mafia movies? What do real Italian people, people from Italy, think about all the mafia movies that are in American movies?

B: Well we usually watch them and enjoy them very much. They are well done.
 
嗯，我们经常看这类电影，而且我们非常喜欢。这些电影拍得非常出色。
 
A: Ok, so you're not offended? You don't think that it has a negative image of Italy as just being like crime and gangsters and things like that?
 
好，所以你没有觉得被冒犯了？你不认为犯罪、黑帮之类的会使意大利给人负面的印象？
 
B: No. I think that there were so many good people that went to the States from Italy. Some "bad apples" also arrived there that make a very good business — we are not proud of it, but the movies themselves they are fantastic. The Godfather is amazing. Later in Italy we also saw The Sopranos and I could not stop watching it. It was great.
 
我不这么认为。我认为意大利有很多优秀的人去了美国。当然也有一些坏人去了美国，而且他们在那里过得很好，不过我们并不为此感到骄傲，电影本身拍得非常棒。《教父》真的太棒了。之后以意大利为背景的还有美剧《黑道家族》，那部剧我看了后就停不下来了，真的太精彩了。
 
A: Me too. Me too. So have you actually been to America?

B: Yes, I've been. I was lucky enough to go to California and to Nevada shortly.

A: Uh huh. So what was it like being an Italian in America?

B: It was funny because when I was at parties or talking to people -- in the beginning I'd just say hello or something, just say I was from Italy. If I didn't say much they couldn't realize I was a real Italian and they asked me, "Where are you from?" And I'd say, "From Italy." And they'd say, "From what part? Jersey?" or something like that. And I'd say, "well, Italy, the country! "
 
我觉得很有趣，因为一开始我参加派对或和人们聊天时只是打个招呼，或者只说我来自意大利之类的。如果我不怎么说话，别人不会意识到我是意大利人，他们会问我，“你来自哪里？”我回答说“我来自意大利。”他们会问：“来自哪里？新泽西州？”之类的，我会回答：“我来自意大利那个国家！”
 
A: Right.

B: And then often they'd ask me what generation of Italian I was. And I'd say, "well, forever, we don't have generations. You're Italian and end of story. That's it."

A: Yeah, Italian, Italian. Oh, that's great. So what do you think about the Italian-American culture in the US. Does it seem very Italian to you or does it seem more American?

B: That's a very interesting question because I met a lot of American-Italians in Europe and they came to me and said, "I'm Italian too!" And I started to talk Italian to them. They couldn't say a word. And I said, "Hmm. That's odd." And then they would always carry on praising Italy in Italy for which I was very proud. But then sometimes they would do sometimes some stupid things and they'd say, "I do this because I'm Italian." And I'd think, "No, you do this because you are yourself!"
 
这是一个很有意思的问题，因为我在欧洲遇到过很多美籍意大利人，他们会和我说：“我也是意大利人！”可是我开始用意大利语和他们聊天时，却发现他们他们什么都说不出来。这时我会说，“嗯，这真奇怪。”然后他们通常会赞美意大利，这点让我很自豪。不过有时他们做了一些愚蠢的事后，他们会说，“我是意大利人所以我会这么做。”这时我会说，“不是这样，因为是你，才会做这种蠢事！”
 
A: Like, can you give an example?
 
你能举个例子吗？
 
B: Oh the way, some like, some of them they were crazy about women. They were going after skirts we say. And they look at me like, "Oh, I'm Italian." And I'd say, "Not everybody does it." So it's a kind of urban legend or something like that.
 
嗯，有些人对女性很痴迷。他们会跟着穿裙子的女性。然后他们会看着我说：“哦，我是意大利人。”我会说：“不是所有人都这么做。”所以这就像坊间传闻之类的。
