What does education aim for? 1 This is a topic which is usually talked about. Some believe that education should be tailored to meet social needs. However, others hold that the purpose of education is to help educatees realize their personal dreams. 2

In my opinion, education should give consideration to both social needs and personal dreams. 3 Firstly 4 , education should try to meet social needs in order to promote the sustained and healthy development of our society. We should be guided by the demands of society, establish the scientific education system, and form the virtuous circle in which education serves society and society nurtures education. Furthermore 4 , in the long run, education should respect educatees’ personal dreams and cultivate talents with innovation consciousness because they are decisive forces which push the society forward.

To sum up, education should take both social needs and personal dreams into consideration. Neither of them can be sacrificed at the cost of the other. Only with the combination of the two can we make a successful and meaningful education. 5
