1　return 作及物动词用时，表示“归还，还给”，后面不可再用back，因为return 本身就相当于give back，结构为：

return sb. +sth.

return sth. to sb.

He has returned the books to the library. 他已经把书还给图书馆了。

You haven't returned her the money yet. 你还没有把钱还给她呢 。

You haven't returned the money to her yet.

2　return 作不及物动词用时，表示“返回，回到”，相当于go back或come back，也不可同back连用。

He returned home last night. 他昨天夜里回家来的。（=come back home）

She will return to the factory in a week. 她将在1周后返回工厂。（=go back to the factory）

return是非延续性动词，与go, come, leave, start, begin等动词一样，不可与表示一段时间的状语连用。

He has returned home for a month . （误）

He returned home a month ago . （正）

It is a month since he returned home. （正）他回家已经一个月了。
