Here's Sheila. The term chick flick is often used to conjure up images of romantic comedies with plenty of feel good factor but by definition lacking in substance. All too often such films are dismissed by critics as thin and frothy… Well, we asked writer and chick flick expert Samantha Cook if she thought chick flicks could be serious. Absolutely – I mean there's a lot of death, disease, loss, sadness – chick flicks do not have to be romantic comedies. And like any movie, a chick flick or women's movie allows us to work through some of the really big emotions. Well, Nigel Floyd is a film critic and he gives us the male point of view on chick flicks and why men might not like them so much. There is a problem I think for men and a couple of them are: chocolate as a source of solace is always a problem I think, shoes as a religion or drug and stick-thin rivals in love. Well we went out onto the streets of Britain to find out what people really think about chick flicks. First, let's see what the men think. They're terrible I hate them. I really like them – I think that it's wrong to call them chick flicks in fact What about the women? Do they like chick flicks? Yeah, it depends what kind of film it is, but I think they are enjoyable if you can intersperse them with more serious films, I think. A bit frothy – a bit of a waste of time really.
